29. SAMR, LMS, Whiteboard, BYOD

This article talks about the different models in teaching and learning. Just by reading this article I would not be able to tell you what SAMR stands for but with further research I learned that it stands for Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition. This model is to help teacher have a certain order when it comes to teaching. I think that this model is a good idea for teachers who are not as tech savvy. It is easy to use and would be very helpful for teachers to make their lesson plans. The article talks about how some tools are just thrown at teachers without them really being taught how to integrate these tools into their lesson plans. I think that a model such as the SAMR, should change this. With further research I found out that LMS stands for Learning Management System. The LMS is used for teachers to post assignments, announcements, or anything else they would like to share with the class. In my opinion, I think that LMS favors Blackboard. But since Blackboard is so complicated sometimes even for college students I don't see this being useful for young children. This article also talks about Whiteboards. I love this idea and I think they are wonderful for any age group of kids. We never had them in my school growing up but I have been in contact with a few in my college career. I would love to have one of these in my class room in the future. The last thing mentioned in this article is BYOD, Bring Your Own Device. I'm not real sure how I feel about this idea. Students could have games or others things downloaded on to their device that might not be school appropriate. Also there may be children who are less fortunate who do not have anything to bring. It might be a good idea though in the idea that the school will not have to spend so much money on computers if students can bring their own.
