10. Concept Map- The Little Mermaid

Students will listen to me read the book in class

I.    Read the book

Students will listen to me read the book aloud in class. After hearing the book they will have a few minutes to brainstorm. After that we will talk about what they think the setting and characters look like. This will give them a chance to be creative before seeing the movie and what the characters actually look like.

A.    The Little Mermaid

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.K.7 With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

1.    By reading the book students will be able to use their imagination to visualize the characters

Then they will color their drawing

I.    Coloring/Drawing Activity

By this point the students have created, in their imagination, what they think the characters look like. The drawing activity lets them use their artistic ability to create the characters in their heads. Then they will put the characters in an ocean setting. Then lastly they will color or paint their drawing.

Students will watch the movie and get to watch the book play  out on screen

I.    Watch the movie

Watching the movie after reading the book will give student a better visual of what they just heard. Also it will give students a better understanding of the story and what the characters look like. Children love watching movies so this should be very entertaining for them also.

Students will get to see what the characters actually look like

Students will get in groups and pick their favorite scene in the movie

I.    Reenact a scene in the movie

The students will be separated into groups and each group will decide on a favorite scene in the movie. The students will get plenty of time to feel comfortable in their parts. After practicing, the students will get in front of the class and reenact that scene. This should be fun for the students and hopefully make them more comfortable in front of other students.

Then they will get in front of the class and reenact that scene

Students will pick their favorite character in the book/movie

I.    Dress up as their favorite character

As a fun activity, at the end of the week the children will get to come to class dressed up as their favorite character. And this should make it more fun when they get to reenact their scene from the movie/book.

On the last day of the project students will get to dress up like their favorite character

Students will draw in pencil a scene from the book, complete with characters and a setting. The drawing will eventually get color when the drawing is complete.

I.    Students will draw what they think each character looks like after reading the book

8. Safe Practices for Life Online

1.  1) Facebook
     2) Match.com
     3) Christian Mingle

2. Students can have many consequences by putting too much information on to social network sites. Students can put too much information in their screen names allowing hackers to figure out more about them or be able to guess their password. Parents should have more discipline on their children and watch what they are doing on these sites.

Phishing- the activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company.
Spyware- software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another's computer activities by transmitting data covertly from their hard drive.

ViolinGurl isn't too revealing because she is not giving out a name but she is stating that she is a girl who plays the violin.

11.
In this video I learned that drive-by downloads are unauthorized downloads. If you click on any email from a hacker your computer will be hacked with mal-ware. These emails and ads can be on any website, even legitimate ones. There are many visual signs that your computer is infected. They are: unusual applications in your program bar, your web browser's homepage changed, unfamiliar toolbar appears in your web browser, your browser has new bookmarks you didn't make, pop-up windows display ads, and unusual files in different directories on your computer. This mal-ware redirects your browser to other URLs and starts to download more junk and random files onto your computer. It also sends people emails from your account that you may not be aware of.

There are many things you can do to prevent this from happening to your PC. Anybody owning a PC should make sure they have the proper protective software to keep their computers safe from these problems. Other defensive tips include: keeping up with patches, harden your web browser, block dangerous file types at your Firebox and use antivirus and anti-spyware software and keep it up to date. If your PC does get hacked by this mal-ware and drive-by downloads you should reformat the computer drive and wipe it clean.

5. Use Arts Integration to Enhance Common Core

Integration requires a lot from teachers who decide to take on this challenge. Collaboration, research, intentional alignment, and practical application are the main things involved in integration. From the students perspective they have to be creative, have problem-solving skills, perseverance, collaboration, and the ability to work through the demands of multiple ideas and concepts put together to create the final product. There are two ways in which the integration approach is through, those two ways are STEM and Arts Integration. Most things nowadays are sold and presented to use in art form, things that have a high visual impact. Giving students this same type of art in learning helps them get a better perspective.

I think using Arts Integration to enhance the Common Core is a good idea. Children learn better when they have more hands on activities and higher visuals on the material. It is good that when teachers use this approach they can ensure that students are learning in a way that meets their own unique cultural, social, emotional and intellectual needs. This Art Integration approach give a pathway for many opportunitites for the students and teachers.
