3. The Biggest Fallact of the Common Core Standards

The common core is a great idea but not everybody thinks so, like the person who wrote this article. In this article Diane Ravitch talks about how a lot of schools are only agreeing to the Common Core Standards because it will allow them to be eligible for federal funds such as the Race to the Top federal fund. Nowadays they are saying that if the Common Core is not in affect that students will not be college-ready or career-ready. Ravitch goes on to state how the Common Core Standards even caused a collapse in test scores in New York, causing those students to be very discouraged.

It is easy to see that Diane Ravitch is strongly against the Common Core Standard. In certain ways I do agree with her. It is a really good idea to put technology into schools, with my biggest thing being it making things equal. There are some students who are not fortunate enough to have computers or internet access in their homes. It does sound like so many states adopted the Common Core Standards due to the high federal funds they could receive. I do agree that standard for the Common Core might be too high and could be adjusted. If students get too discouraged they will want to give up. All states have different standards for everything, so it does make things a little unfair. I slightly agree with Diane of the face that some of our priorities are confused.

  1. I also can agree that the Common Core could be adjusted. The states have the power to do so because instruction and curriculum lies within the states' powers, so why not change it to fit with what the states' need?

  2. Since some students aren't fortunate enough to have computers or internet access in their homes, the Common Core Standards may, indeed, be too high. I certainly agree that the Common Core should be adjusted and that our priorities are confused.
